Maxine P. Rye
May 1, 1919 - September 30, 2016

Maxine P. Rye, 97, of Fertile, Iowa, died on Friday, September 30, 2016, at the Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton, Iowa.

The youngest of nine children, Maxine Pauline Fredrickson, a daughter of Fred and Olava Fredrickson, was born on May 1, 1919, in Forest City, Iowa. After graduating as Salutatorian from the Forest City High School in 1937, she attended school in St. Cloud, Minnesota. Afterwards, she taught in several rural schools in the area.

Maxine and Norman S. Rye married on October 25, 1945. Subsequently, three children, James, Julie, and David, fulfilled their happily married life.

Maxine worked for three years at AC Nielson’s in Mason City. Because she loved helping other people, she enjoyed her thirteen years working as a Nurse’s Aide at Oakwood Manor in Clear Lake and then later caring for the elderly in their homes and volunteering with Hospice. Moreover, she loved to read books and enjoyed her many years volunteering at the Fertile Library.

Maxine let her faith in the Lord guide her life. An active member of the Fertile Lutheran Church, she taught Sunday school for many years and served as Sunday school superintendent and Bible study leader for her circle. In addition, she started the weekly Bible Study at Town Square Apartments in Forest City and led it for twenty-seven years. She loved working in her flower gardens and crocheting afghans for everyone in the family. An excellent cook and baker, she cherished her family and the time she was able to share with them. She will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Maxine is survived by her three children, James (Susan) Rye, of Des Moines, Julie (Robert) Abendschein, of Hampton, and David (Valerie) Rye, of Morrison, Colorado; four grandchildren, Lisa Abendschein, of Hampton, David (Christina) Abendschein, of Lago Vista, Texas, Matthew (Meagan) Abendschein, of Dallas, Texas, and Katherine (Dominique) Wright, of Powder Springs, Georgia; five great-granddaughters, Ashley and Margaret Wicks, of Hampton, Sophia Kent, of Lago Vista, Texas, and Presley and Hazel Abendschein, of Dallas, Texas; and a soon to be born great-grandson, Dominique Wright, Jr.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman S. Rye; four brothers, Ed, Fred, Lloyd, and Oscar Fredrickson; and two sisters, Myrtle Anderson and Esther Watton; as well as by two infant siblings, Clara and Arthur Fredrickson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, October 3, 2016, at the Fertile Lutheran Church with Pastor Dave Halvorson officiating. Visitation will take place between 3:00 and 5:00 P.M. on Sunday at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, Iowa, and will also continue one hour before services at the church on Monday. Burial will follow in Brush Point Cemetery, rural Fertile. Memorials may be directed to the Fertile Lutheran Church or the Franklin Country View Nursing Home in Hampton, Iowa.
