May 21, 1936 - September 9, 2016Avis Sylvia Alm, 80, of Garner, formerly of Forest City, died on Friday, September 9, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City.
Avis Sylvia Alm, a daughter of Abraham and Gertrude (Peterson) Olson, was born on May 21, 1936, in Forest City. She attended and graduated from Forest City Schools. On June 3, 1953, she married Luther Alm at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. To their union, three children were born, Linda, Mark, and Cindy.
Luther and Avis made their home on a farm northwest of Forest City their entire married lives. They liked going fishing with friends up north every year. An active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Avis, also, belonged to the Red Hat Society, the Card Club, and the Birthday Club. In addition, she enjoyed the time she spent with her family and friends and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
Avis is survived by her children, Linda (Bob) Hoveland, of Miller, Mark Alm, of Garner, and Cindy (Dale) Lipp, of Nora Springs; her grandchildren, Jacob, Samantha, and her fiancé, Cole Davison, and Hunter; her great- grandson, Lane; her brothers, Carl (Dollie) Olson, of Clear Lake, and Palmer Olson, of California; and her brother-in-law, Dale Haes; as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luther, in 2009; her sister, Arlene Haes, and her sister-in-law, Lorraine Olson.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, September 13, 2016, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Home, 505 North Clark St., Forest City, with Pastor Rod Hopp of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the funeral home on Tuesday. Burial will follow in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City. Memorials may be directed to the Avis Alm memorial fund in care of the family.
