Surrounded by his family, Paul M. Johanson, age 70, passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2016, at his home in rural Leland, Iowa.

Paul Michael Johanson was born on October 18, 1945, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to O.R. “Bud” and Amy Deloris “Dolly” (Oakland) Johanson. He attended and graduated from Dows High School. Then, he went on to graduate from Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, Kansas. On July 20, 1973, Paul married Melissa McCullough in Dows, Iowa.

For many years, Paul worked as a manufacturing engineer at Winnebago Industries. He loved farming, woodworking, fishing, gardening, driving for the Lake Mills City Transit, and sitting on his deck with his bride of forty-two years. He will be remembered for his signature laugh, his kindness to others, and his Christian Faith.

Survivors include his wife, Melissa Johanson, of Leland, Iowa; her daughter Sarah (Steve) Boblenz, of Grimes, Iowa; her son, Matthew (Lisa) Johanson, of Wasilla, Arkansas; four grandchildren, Alec and Evie Boblenz and Aidan and Kyla Johanson; five siblings, Dennis (Gloria) Johanson, of Britt, Iowa, Mark (Jackie) Johanson, of Duchesne, Utah, Diane (Rich) Ryerson, of Pella, Iowa, Cindy (Wyman) Wilson, of Vancouver, Washington, and John Johanson, of Chicago, Illinois; as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a niece, Andrea Johanson; and a nephew Aaron Johanson.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to www.caringbridge.org and to Albert Lea Hospice.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, July 7, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, with Father Jim Young of St. John’s Episcopal Church officiating. Paul’s family will greet friends at the church one hour prior to the service between 10:00 and 11:00 AM on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Albert Lea Hospice in care of Set Memories Aglow Donations, 1705 SE Broadway St., Albert Lea, Minnesota, 56007.
