Marilyn K. White
January 03, 1942 - June 25, 2016

Marilyn K. White, age 74, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and formerly of Le Sueur, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016, at Seasons Hospice House in Rochester, Minnesota.

Born on January 3, 1942, to Ruby and Rueben Howard near Renwick, Iowa, Marilyn grew up in the Scarville and Lake Mills area. After marrying Russell Smidt in 1960, she lived near Silver Lake, Iowa, where they farmed and raised three daughters, Deb, Donna, and Darla. In 1980, after marrying Richard White, she gained two stepdaughters, Anna and Cecelia.

Over the years, Marilyn not only worked on the farm, but also outside the home in various industries including Streaters Industries in Albert Lea, Minnesota, and later ADC Telecommunications in Le Sueur, Minnesota, before she retired. As one of the first women to run a forklift in a union shop, she took pride in her accomplishment. Ever the entrepreneur, she was always thinking of the next big idea to earn extra money for gifts for her family. By making and selling lefse or crafts, for example, she would buy them a piano, a camper, motorcycles, or extra Christmas presents.

Marilyn valued each and every member of her family. She enjoyed gathering them all at her home and spending time with them. She loved making special memories with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A woman of many talents, she could whip up a multi-course meal in minutes and loved to feed the masses. She, always, tried to remember what everyone liked and would try to make those “favorites” at family gatherings. She not only enjoyed cooking and baking, but she, also, excelled in sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and crafting. She, always, had numerous projects under construction in her home.

Marilyn is survived by her daughters, Deb (John) McDonald, of Duluth, Minnesota, Donna (Mike) Hengesteg, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Darla (Mike) Jaycox, of Rochester, Minnesota; and her stepdaughters, Anna (Gary) Miller, of St. Peter, Minnesota, and Cecelia (Dan) Schueler, of Le Center, Minnesota; as well as by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Marcia Michel, and her husband, Richard White.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will take place between 4:00 and 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Scarville, Iowa.
