U.S. Veteran Merlyn C. Schmoll, age 95, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, January 12, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, Iowa.

Merlyn Clifford Schmoll, a son of Charley and Frances (Knaak) Schmoll, was born in Clear Lake, Iowa, on April 4, 1920. He lived in the Clear Lake area and farmed with his dad.

Merlyn first met Lois Mae Schulz at a 4-H Camp in 1941. Discharged from the Navy in 1946, he married Lois at the Methodist Church in Hayfield, Iowa, on April 3, 1947. In 1953, they moved to Lake Mills, Iowa, and farmed there until they moved to West Liberty, Iowa, in December of 2004. Lois passed away on November 19, 2012. She and Merlyn had been blessed with sixty-five years of marriage.

His survivors include his sons, Jack (Barbara) Schmoll, of Wilton, Iowa, and Henry (Barbara) Schmoll, of Marion, Iowa; three grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and one brother, Wilbur.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Monday, January 18, 2016, at the Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Shirley Hoffmann Will officiating. Military Honors will be conducted by the Otto Chose Post #235. Burial will follow in the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa. Visitation will be on Monday, January 18, 2016, from 11:30 AM to service time (1:30 PM) at the Asbury United Methodist Church, 107 East Main Street in Lake Mills, Iowa 50450.
