Jane Abels
December 1, 1939 - December 25, 2015Jane Abels, 76, of Buffalo Center, passed away unexpectedly at her home on Friday, December 25, 2015.
Jane Marie was born in Forest City, Iowa, on December 1, 1939, to Marion and Thelma (Thompson) Johnson. She graduated from Forest City High School in 1957. While in high school, she worked as a carhop at the Lake Mills A&W Drive-In where she met Dave, the love of her life. In 1958, she graduated from Hamilton Business College in Mason City, Iowa.
Then, Jane went to work at the Iowa Hardware National Insurance Company with her sisters, Judy and Joan. On June 19, 1960, Jane married Dave and to their union, three children were born. After their wedding, Dave and Jane lived in the Buffalo Center area where Jane worked for Wilson’s Clothing as well as alongside Dave on the family farm. She enjoyed operating the combine, catch cart, and grain truck. Together, she and Dave made a great team, both on the farm and in the home.
Jane was at her happiest when she was with family and friends and involved in community activities. She loved to have coffee with the girls, and she was a passionate and active member of her church.
Jane is preceded in death by her husband Dave, her parents, and her mother- and father-in-law, Cora and Joe Abels.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Dan (Deb) Abels, of Thompson, Iowa, and Cory (Jamie) Abels, of St. Peter, Minnesota; her daughter, Julie (Vince) Johnson, of Swea City, Iowa; her grandchildren: Adam, Amelia, Andrew (Cherisse), Colton, and Madison Abels; Lacey (Matt) DeGeest; and Lindsy (Roby) Randall; her great grandchildren: Waylon DeGeest and Lauren Randall; her sisters, Judy (Earl) Trenhaile, of Manly, Iowa, Joan (Bill) Stewart and Jan (Joe) Stock, of Canon City, Colorado, and Jill (Vern) Thompson, of Lincoln, Nebraska; her in-laws: Don (Marlys) Abels, of Sun City, Arizona, Barb (Larry) Weaver and Jan (Dave) Kiewiet, of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Bev (Al) Murra, of Vermillion, South Dakota; along with cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends.
Jane will always be remembered for her kind and giving heart, sense of humor, strong work ethic, and love of the Lord.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Brad Devries officiating. Burial will follow at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Visitation will be Tuesday, December 29, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the church.
