Nylene M. Swenson, 89, of Thompson, Iowa, died on Saturday, December 19, 2015, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa.

A daughter of George and Gertrude (Johnson) Nelson, Nylene Marjorie Swenson was born in Albert Lea, Minnesota, on January 14, 1926. Baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church on June 20, 1926, and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church on November 26, 1939, in Kiester, Minnesota, she attended school in and graduated from Kiester High School. On November 2, 1947, Nylene married Maynard Swenson at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Their union was blessed with five children, Steven Craig, Scott Allen, Cynthia Sue, Kent Lee, and Kimberly Kay. They made their home in the Thompson area for most of their lives. More recently, however, she had resided at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa.

An active member of Bethany Lutheran Church, Nylene served as custodian for many years. She enjoyed participating in her church circles and the Birthday Club and working as the Avon Lady.

She worked at Don’s Food Mart in Thompson and later in the kitchen at Thompson Community School. She enjoyed her time in her flower gardens and loved to share them with others. She, truly, held dear visiting with and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her children, Scott (Stephanie) Swenson, of Thompson, Iowa, Cindy (Bruce) Tapper, of Jefferson, Iowa, Kent (Julie) Swenson, of Scarville, Iowa, and Kim (John) Miller, of Aurora, Illinois; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; along with several other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, December 23, 2015, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, with Pastor Lynn Noel officiating. Visitation will be between 4:00 and 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, and again one hour prior to the service. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Thompson, Iowa.
