Ardell J. Brua, age 92, passed away on Wednesday, November 18, 2015, surrounded by the love of his family at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Ardell Jeroy Brua was born at home on October 3, 1923, in Silver Lake Township, Worth County, to James and Anne (Stene) Brua.

Baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, Ardell attended schools in rural Worth County and graduated from Emmons High School in 1941. He, then, attended Waldorf College.

On March 14, 1943, Ardell married Alfreda Anderson at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. Subsequently, they had one son, Vaughn Dudley. The family farmed two miles southeast of Emmons for approximately fifty years before moving to Lake Mills in 1998. In March, 2015, Ardell and Alfreda celebrated seventy-two years of marriage. Alfreda passed away on April 1, 2015.

Ardell had a passion for farming. He, also, worked for the Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service (ASCS) in Northwood and spent over twenty years as a rural mail carrier. He was also a talented carpenter and mechanic.

Ardell is survived by his son, Vaughn; his grandson, Cory Brua, and his wife, Brenda, of Lake Mills, and their children, Cole, Danielle, and Hayden; his granddaughter, Nikki Brua-Behrens, and her husband, Russ, of Grinnell, Iowa, and their daughters, Hannah and Claire; and his granddaughter, Sara Fredericksen, and her husband, Lance, of Wallingford, Iowa, and their daughters, Madigan and Lydia; as well as by six nieces and one nephew.

He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Anne (Stene) Brua; his father- and mother-in-law, Albert and Mattie Anderson; a sister, Dorothy, and her husband, Gene Moen; a brother, Eldo, and his wife, Geraldine; a brother-in-law, Wilfer, and his sisters-in-law, Blanche and Lois Anderson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, with Pastor Clarence Baalson and Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Inurnment will take place at Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
