October 12, 1922 - October 27, 2015Orrin B. Torkelson, 93, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, October 27, 2015, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt, Iowa.
One of thirteen children, Orrin Bernie Torkelson, a son of Osmund and Bessie (Olson) Torkelson, was born on October 12, 1922, in Hardy, Iowa. He farmed around the Forest City area and also owned a construction business, Torkelson Bros. Sand, Gravel and Excavating, with his two brothers, John and Art.
On May 28, 1977, in Farmington, Minnesota, Orrin married Marian Hickler from Minneapolis. They lived on acreage southeast of Forest City until they moved to Forest City on September 29, 2011.
Orrin enjoyed playing music. Through the years, he shared his talents, singing and playing instruments with The Torkelson music group at many church services as well as at other venues in the area. He, also, enjoyed spending time with his family. A witness for his Savior, he accepted the Lord as his Savior at age 27. He will, indeed, be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Orrin is survived by his faithful and loving wife, Marian; his sister, Juliane (Charlie) Albertson; his sisters-in-law, Betty Hickler, Bonnie (John) Torkelson, and Linda (Art) Kesler; and his brother-in-law, Marvin (Darlene) Hanna, all of Forest City; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
Orrin is preceded in death by his five brothers, six sisters, his parents, and his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 30, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Rev. Merrill Olson officiating. Visitation will be from 1:00 P.M. until service time at the church on Friday. Burial will follow in Ellington Township Cemetery [Hancock County]. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Orrin B. Torkelson memorial fund in care of the family.
