Delores Lorraine Goette, age 73, of Rake, Iowa, formerly of Bricelyn, Minnesota, died on Monday, September 22, 2014, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Delores Lorraine, a daughter of Herbert and Dena (Halvorson) Peterson, was born on July 12, 1941, in Emmons, Minnesota. Baptized and confirmed at Somber Lutheran Church, Delores graduated from Lake Mills High School and then went to work in Minneapolis as a secretary. There, she met Jerry Goette, whom she married on December 10, 1960, at Somber Lutheran Church in rural Lake Mills. Making their home on a farm south of Bricelyn, they raised their three awesome children!
The family historian, Delores found joy in the annual Goette 4th of July campout at the farm, Thanksgiving, and all family gatherings. She loved to stay in touch with people via Facebook and her cell phone. She and Jerry wintered in Florida for the past twenty-four years. Together, they enjoyed being involved in the trap shooting circuit, mom in the kitchen where she was most comfortable. Delores, always, made her family’s favorite foods, layered jello, pistachio salad, cake crumbs, kringla, frosting, and chocolate chip cookies, just to name a few. A cake baker/decorator, quilter, and sewer, she had a knack for making everyone feel special. If ever a problem arose, she would solve it. Ultimately, she most loved having her family together.
Delores is survived by her husband, Jerry; her children, Gary (Karen) Goette, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Sandra (Thomas) Welsh, of Eyota, Minnesota, and Joel (Lori) Goette, of Rochester, Minnesota; her grandchildren: Alissa, Brandon (Erika), and Corbin Goette; and Jesse and Laura (fiancé Patrick Miller) Welsh; her sisters, Darlene (Duane) Kittelson, Ardis (Dick) Swenson, and Diane (Irwin) Naser; and her brothers, Richard (Sonia) and Larry (Debbie) Peterson, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Herbert and Dena; her sister, Maxine Peterson Gregerson; her in-laws, Frank and Adeline Goette; and her brother in-law, Ronnie Goette.
A funeral service will be held Friday, September 26, 2014, at 10:30 a.m. at Bricelyn Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Thursday, September 25, 2014, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn, Minnesota, and for one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday, Pastor Nancy Dreier officiating. Interment will follow in Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Freeborn Area Cancer Auction.
