Dr. John Frederick Russ
May 20, 1866 - August 13, 1930

Dr. John Frederick Russ was born May 20, 1866 at Buffalo, Erie, New York to Christian and Elizabeth Russ. John's brother was Albert Benjamin Russ who was a farmer outside of Buffalo Center, Iowa. John Frederick Russ may have been named after his grandfather in Germany who was named Johann Friedrick Ruess.

John came with his parents when they moved west to live and work on a farm.

Found in the 1880 census living at Grant, Franklin, Iowa: Christian Russ 43, Elizabeth Russ 37, John J. Russ 14, Albert Russ 11, Samuel Russ 8, Elizabeth Russ 4.

He married Augusta Marie Badker on January 23, 1895 at Buffalo Center, Winnebago, Iowa. The couple had 5 children who were all born at Winnebago County, Iowa:
-Luella May (b December 6, 1897, d October 7, 1996 Hastings, Dakota, Minnesota);

-Frank Cecil (b June 2, 1899, d July 13, 1971 Red Wing, Goodhue, Minnesota);

-Annabel (b July 16, 1902, d January 24, 1992 Onoalaska, Lacrosse, Wisconsin);

-Ione Lela (b May 29, 1904, d March 12, 2003 Minneapolis, Minnesota) and

-John Frederick (b May 11, 1908, d March 4, 1983 Wells, Faribault, Minnesota).

Found in the 1930 census at Blue Earth, Faribault, Minnesota: John F Russ 64, Augusta Russ 54, Frederick Russ 22, Ida Badker 81.

Dr John F Russ died on August 13, 1930 at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Olmsted, Minnesota from stomach cancer.

From The Blue Earth Post: Dr J F Russ came to the Iowa Falls, Iowa area in 1869 with his brother Albert and his parents. After graduation from high school in Iowa Falls, he taught school for several years and then enrolled in Medical School at Univ. of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. He graduated in 1893 and moved to Buffalo Center where he practiced medicine for the next 20 years. Then he moved to Iowa Falls, Iowa where he practiced for seven years. He ended his practice in Blue Earth, Minnesota serving there 10 years.

He is buried at the Graceland Cemetery, Buffalo Center, Winnebago, Iowa. There is a memorial for him at Find a Grave #130390963 with photos.
