May 11, 1938 - December 16, 2014Gary M. Thompson, 76, of Duncan Heights, formerly of Forest City, died on Tuesday, December 16, 2014, at the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Gary Miller Thompson was born on May 11, 1938, in Forest City, Iowa, a son of Maynard and Mebel (Helgeson) Thompson. Baptized at the Winnebago Lutheran Church, he spent his childhood growing up on a farm in Mt. Valley Township. For many years, he worked for Sorenson roofing and later for Thompson Roofing. In his spare time, he liked riding his bicycle from town to town. For many years, he lived with his brother, Clair, and his wife, Lavonne, in Forest City. In 1999, he entered his home in Duncan Heights where he, currently, resided. He enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially with his nieces and nephews.
He is survived by two brothers, Stanley (Carolyn), of Forest City, and Lynn, of Estherville, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Lavonne Thompson, of Forest City; as well as by many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Virginia; his brother, Clair; and his niece, Michelle.
Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, December 20, 2014, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Rod Hopp of the Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Upon his wishes, his remains were cremated and there will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Gary M. Thompson memorial fund in care of the family.
