Surrounded by her family, Ruth Eileen Menagh, 53, of Thompson, Iowa, passed away at her home in Thompson, Iowa, on Monday, December 8, 2014.

Ruth Eileen Coxson Menagh was born on March 31, 1961, in Norwalk, California, a daughter of Richard Gilbert and Ferne Yvonne (Ellingson) Coxson. In 1979, she graduated from Mayfair High School in Lakewood, California.

She, then, attended California Polytechnic State University — San Luis Obispo where she met her future husband, the love of her life, John “Rob” Menagh. They married on June 12, 1982, in Lakewood, California.

Ruth and Rob owned and managed a bowling alley, a bar, and a restaurant in Delano, California, for a few years. In 1992, they moved to Thompson, Iowa, where they raised their three children, Shannon (24), Colleen (22) and John (19).

Ruth became a manager of the Dairy Queen in Blue Earth, Minnesota. Later, she went to work for Fleetguard/Cummins in Lake Mills, Iowa. After leaving Cummins, she attended and in 2012, graduated Suma Cum Laude from the University of Northern Iowa.

Ruth is survived by her loving husband Rob; her children Shannon, Colleen and John; her parents, Richard and Ferne Coxson; her siblings, Pam, Jan, Al, Phil, Debbie, Tom, and Rob and their respective families; and her special friend since seventh grade, Carrie Vela; as well as by many other extended family members and close friends.

Ruth will be remembered for her positive outlook, kindness, beautiful smile, and infectious laugh.

“We’ll love you forever, we’ll like you for always, as long as we’re living, our Ruthie you’ll be.”

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, December 13, 2014, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa, with Pastor Lynn Noel officiating. There will be no formal visitation prior to the service, but her family encourages everyone to come to the memorial service and share their memories afterward during the luncheon and fellowship. Inurnment will take place at Rose Hill Cemetery, Thompson, Iowa, at a later date. Ruth’s family suggests that memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.
