Dorothy Meyering, 90, of Thompson, Iowa, died on Tuesday, November 4, 2014, at the Hancock Memorial Hospital in Britt.

Dorothy Meyering, a daughter of George and Maggie (Steen) Meinders, was born on January 13, 1924, at home in Buffalo Center. She attended country school near Buffalo Center through the eighth grade. After helping at home and working for various families, she took a job at Price’s Restaurant at Buffalo Center.

On July 23, 1947, Dorothy married Fred Meyering at Blue Earth, Minnesota. To this union, four children were born: Roger, who died in infancy, Sherman, Larry, and Tim. For many years, Dorothy and Fred farmed near Buffalo Center and Crystal Lake. In 1977, however, they moved into Thompson and went into the trucking business.

After her husband passed away in 1984, Dorothy worked at the Thompson Senior Center for ten years. In November of 2010, she became a resident at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. In her spare time, she enjoyed reading, putting together jig saw puzzles, playing cards, cooking, visiting, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren. She was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center.

Dorothy is survived by her three children: Sherman (Ruth) Meyering, of Garner, Larry (Alene) Meyering, of Owings Mills, Maryland, and Tim, of Lakota; her grandchildren: Christopher (Erin) Meyering, and their children Jessica, Chloe, Cassidy, and Jenna; Shannon (Harold) Keithley, and their daughter, Shiloh; Eric, Adam, Keith, Stacy, and Rebecca Meyering; and Michael (Kim) Meyering, and their son, Jace; Beth (Matt) Boyles, and their son, Judah; and Kristina (Jason) Carberry, and a baby-to-be.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Fred; an infant son, Roger; an infant grandson, Ethen Meyering; an infant great granddaughter, Aubrey Carberry; and her sister, Henrietta, and her husband, Eddie Brass.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 7, 2014, at the First Baptist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Ken Quintus officiating. Burial will take place at Olena Mound Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Visitation will start one hour before the service at the church.
