Doris Maxine Nordskog
(February 20, 1927 - September 30, 2014)

Doris Maxine Nordskog died peacefully on Tuesday, September 30, 2014, at the Westview Care Center in Britt, Iowa.

The oldest of three children, Doris Maxine Rogers was born on February 20, 1927, in Beaver, Iowa, a daughter of Milton and Mabel (Rinker) Rogers. She was in a girls’ softball league and played trumpet for the Boone High School Jazz Band. She remembers jumping in the back of pickup trucks with other students, instruments and blankets in hand, on chilly fall nights to go to another town to perform. Doris graduated from Boone High School.

Doris married Paul Nordskog in 1945. They moved to the Forest City area in 1947 to farm. Together, they raised three children, Joseph, Stephen, and Martha. In addition to her duties as a farmer's wife and mother, Doris also owned Doris' Fabric Store in Forest City for several years. A gifted seamstress with much to offer, she taught sewing, knitting, and quilting classes as well. Moreover, she was active in the Forest City Boosters’ Club and the Senior Citizen Center.

Doris is survived by her two sons, Joseph Nordskog, of Phoenix, Arizona, and Stephen (Deb) Nordskog, of Leland, Iowa; her daughter, Martha (Bill) Nordskog-Waters, of Redondo Beach, California; six grandchildren, Chad (Jodi) Nordskog, of Leland, Iowa, Kristi (Todd) Knutson, of Ventura, Iowa, Kim Hauer, of Dodge Center, Minnesota, Paula (John) Abbe, of Blooming Prairie, Minnesota, Maranda (Dustin) Etter, of Garner, Iowa, and Knudt Lien, of Almena, Wisconsin; fourteen great-grandchildren, Ben and Sarah Nordskog; Colton, Carlie, and Isaac Knutson; Jordan and Paige Johnson; Aaron Niles; Samantha, Jack, and Lilly Abbe; and Kalen, Marley, and Nick Etter; and by her sister, Donna Harrigan, of Forest City, Iowa.

Those preceding Doris in death include her mother, Mabel; her father, Milton; her husband, Paul Nordskog; her brother, Merle Rogers; her brother-in-law, Ed Harrigan; and her daughter-in-law, LeAnn Nordskog.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland, Iowa, with lay minister Mr. James Mantel officiating. Visitation with her family will take place one hour prior to the service at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
