Dallas Davids
May 17, 1936 - September 28, 2014Dallas Davids, 78, of Buffalo Center, died of cancer on Sunday, September 28, 2014, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Dallas LaVern Davids was born on May 17, 1936, in Buffalo Center, Iowa, to John Davids II and Vera (Russ) Davids.
In 1954, he graduated from Buffalo Center High School where he had played both football and basketball. Next, he worked for Otto Sheldon Construction and then for the Farmers-Coop elevator where he drove the grain trailer.
In 1957, he married Barbara Risius. They made their first home in Buffalo Center. To their union, two daughters, Sheila and Kristi, were born. In 1962, Dallas and Barb moved to their present farm. Dallas truly loved farm life. He enjoyed working the land, planting and harvesting the crops, and caring for livestock. His “motto” was to “accomplish” something each day on the farm.
Dallas loved the simple pleasures of life: traveling by bus across the states, spending time with family at various camp grounds, and experiencing local tractor rides. A sports fan, he also liked to watch baseball, basketball, and football games on T.V. In addition, he truly enjoyed having coffee with friends at the local café each morning.
A long-time member of the Congregational Church, Dallas had served as usher, choir member, and, at present, on the Church Board of Trustees.
He is survived by Barb, his wife of fifty-seven years; his daughters, Sheila (Randy) Sabin, of Montgomery, Minnesota, and Kristi (Mark) Freeman, of Richfield, Minnesota; his grandchildren, Casey, Danielle, Rachael, and Cody Sabin and Cole Freeman; one great-grandchild, Jamal; four sisters, Violet Baker, of Ames, Iowa, Carol Malmberg, of Pelican Rapids, Minnesota, Leola (Ralph) Borchers, of San Marcus, Texas, and Ruth (George) Bassett, of El Paso, Texas; and one brother, John (Betty) Davids, of Buffalo Center; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Dallas was preceeded in death by his parents and his brothers-in-law, DuWaine Baker and George Malmberg.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Brad DeVries officiating. Burial will take place at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center. Visitation will be held one hour before the service at the church.
