Eunice L. Skellenger, 92, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 08, 2014, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Eunice Laurine Skellenger was born on August 29, 1921, to Oscar and Clara (Groe) Moen at the home of Grandpa and Grandma (Amund & Johanna) Groe in Silver Lake Township. Baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, she graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1939. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church.

On June 1, 1943, Eunice married Lynn Garth Skellenger at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. Two daughters, Diane Rae and Carol Lynn, were born to this union.

In 1940, Eunice began a sixteen year career teaching in country schools, (Bristol 1&2, Silver Lake), Norway Township. In 1956, she completed her career after teaching for two years at Joice Community School.

Eunice loved helping Lynn, traveling, feeding her birds, gardening, and baking. She always had the coffee on for family and friends with plenty of baked goods to eat.

Eunice is survived by her daughter, Carol (Paul) Odegaard, of Lake Mills, Iowa; two grandchildren, Adam and Molly; one sister, Addie Rolands, of Lake Mills, Iowa; and two brothers-in-law, Floyd Skellenger, of Northwood, Iowa, and Virgil Skellenger, of Houston, Texas; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lynn, who died in May, 2008; her daughter, Diane, who died in May, 1961; her grandson, Jesse, who died in December, 1982; her brother, Clarence, who died in infancy; her sister, Julaine Sydness Jellum, and three brothers-in-law, Ted Sydness, Clayton Rolands, Sandy Jellum.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Scott Duffus officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 13, 2014, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E Main, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450 and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Interment will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills, Iowa.
