Robert Keith Larson, age 93, of San Francisco, died on Monday, March 17, 2014, at Heritage on the Marina in San Francisco.Robert Keith Larson was born on November 17, 1920, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Kenneth Helmer and Clara Juline (Hanson) Larson. He attended schools in Lake Mills and Mason City, Iowa.
On September 15, 1940, Robert married Frances M. Latham in Mason City, Iowa.
On April 22, 1944, Robert was inducted into the United States Navy. After serving during World War II, he was honorably discharged as a Seaman First Class on February 14, 1946.
On August 11, 1945, he married Phyllis D. Johnson in Oakland, California.
In July of 1952, Robert moved to California and began a lifelong career at the San Francisco Newspaper Agency, from which he retired after thirty-five years.
A former Commander with the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary, a life member of the Mariners Memorial Club in San Francisco, California, a member of the US Navy League and the American Legion Navy Post #244, both located in San Francisco, Robert also belonged to the Point San Pablo Yacht Club in Point Richmond, California, the Sierra Club of California in Berkeley, California, and Chapter #7 of “Sirs” of California.
He was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City, Iowa, and St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in San Francisco, California.
Survivors include his two daughters, Lorelei (David Pierce) Larson (formerly Fritsche), of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Kären (Dan) Rabehl, of Nampa, Idaho; four grandchildren and two great-granddaughters, David Fritsche, of St. Paul, Minnesota, Jonathan (Misty Zimmerman) Fritsche, and their daughter, Kaylee, of Centerville, Minnesota, Krista (Mike Rosotto) Fritsche, and their daughter, Izabella, of Seattle, Washington, and Mark (Gail Ocasio) Fritsche, of Jacksonville, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Clara Larson.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, March 24, 2014, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Scott Duffus officiating. Visitation will be from 12 noon until service time at Salem Lutheran Church. Burial will be at Salem Lutheran Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa, with military rites performed by Lake Mills American Legion Post #235.
