James "Jim" Michael Thune
(August 7, 1967 - September 15, 2013)

Jim Thune, age 46, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died of heart failure on Sunday, September 15, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.

James Michael Thune was born on August 7, 1967, in Forest City, Iowa, to Michael and Marilyn (Sanden) Thune. Baptized at Winnebago Lutheran Church and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, where he was currently a member, Jim graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1986. During high school, he was the manager for the wrestling team and was a champion archer, competing at both state and national levels. Jim entered the University of Iowa as an honor student, and graduated with a degree in business marketing.

After graduating from college, Jim went to work first for Menards in Oakdale, Minnesota, and then later in Columbus, Nebraska. Next, he became the manager of the Discovery Channel store in the Mall of America. He also managed the World Market in Roseville, Minnesota. After moving back to Lake Mills, he became an entrepreneur selling items on E-Bay, mostly custom Lego sets.

On June 19, 1994, Jim married Kristine Struth. They had one son, Michael Allan, born on September 15, 1995. The couple later divorced.

A very intelligent man, Jim knew a lot about many subjects; Fascinated with science, he took up studying about physics, geology, and astronomy, as well as other sciences. Also an excellent cook, he enjoyed trying new recipes and foods. He will be remembered as a kind hearted person who loved his family.

He is survived by his parents, Allan and Marilyn Pederson, of Lake Mills; his son Michael; his brother, Jeffrey (Erin) Pederson, of Lake Mills; two nieces, Nora and Gracie Pederson, whom he loved dearly; his aunts and uncles, Phillip Thune, of Manly, Iowa, Carol and Dale Gurwell, of Clive, Iowa, Gary and Deborah Sanden, of Marietta, Georgia, and Kayla and Jim Wieme, of Rochester, Minnesota; and his cousins and their families, Kim and Dave Schloesser, Alex and Drew, of Germantown, Wisconsin, Michelle and Andrew Arnburg, Brianna and Lizzie, of Earlham, Iowa, Liza and Tom Crockett, Collin and Wren, of Anchorage, Alaska, Ryan and Stacy Wieme, Maren and Oliver, of Madison, Wisconsin, Ben and Ellen King, Colin and Sam, of Maple Grove, Minnesota, Ben and Shelley Sanden, of Marietta, Georgia, Steven and Brenda Thune, Zach and Zoey, of Waterloo, Iowa, Laura Thune, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Melissa Thune Olsen, of Denver, Colorado.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, Michael, in 1969; two sisters, Joan, in 1967, and Julie, in 1981; and his grandparents, Melvin and Orene Sanden, Gisle and Kathryn Thune, and Glen and Alvina Pederson.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, September 18, 2013, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Inurnment will be in the Winnebago Lutheran Church Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 17, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
