June 30, 1929 - July 25, 2013

FOREST CITY - Morris J. Kluver, 84, of Forest City, died on Thursday, July 25, 2013, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Morris James Kluver, the son of Glen and Eva (McCain) Kluver, was born on June 30, 1929, at home in rural Hancock County. Raised on the family farm south of Crystal Lake, he graduated from Crystal Lake High School in 1946 and then continued his education at Waldorf College.

On November 20, 1951, Morris married Janice Olson at Faith Lutheran Church in Miller, Iowa. Decoding messages, he served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. For his military service, he received the Merit Unit Commendation, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Service Medal with three Bronze Service Medals, and the United Nations Service Medal. Following his honorable discharge in November of 1953, he returned to Crystal Lake.

Morris and Janice made their home on the family farm south of Crystal Lake until October, 2004, when they moved into Forest City. Morris farmed and raised livestock. He enjoyed his cows, eating out, having coffee at Hardees, attending the grandchildren's events, and spending time with family.

A member of the Crystal Lake United Methodist church, the County Extension Board, the Woden-Crystal Lake School Board, the Hancock County Draft Board, and the Crystal Lake American Legion Post 409 as well as the Garner VFW Post 5515, Morris also served as a 4-H Leader. In addition, in 1975, he was recognized as an Iowa Master Farmer.

Morris is survived by his three sons, James (Emily), of Roswell, New Mexico, Kent (Paula), of The Villages, Florida, and Lynn (DeEtta), of Crystal Lake; six grandchildren, Lee and Seth, of San Diego, California, Brad (Tiernie) Kluver, of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, Kellie Kluver (fiancé Pat Sauter), of Cedar Rapids, and Taylor and Trevor, of Crystal Lake; and two sisters, Glenys (Dale) Bird, of McHenry, Illinois, and Eleanor Kluver, of Crystal Lake; as well as by many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice, on October 28, 2012; his parents; two brothers; and one sister.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Crystal Lake United Methodist Church with Rev. Charles Layton officiating. Burial will be in Crystal Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake with graveside military rites by the Crystal Lake American Legion Post 409. A memorial visitation will be held from 1:00 to 4:00 P.M., Sunday, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
