(September 20, 1924 - June 26, 2013)U.S. Veteran Conrad O. Faugstad, 88, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 26, 2013, from complications of a stroke at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Conrad was born on September 20, 1924, in Winnebago County to Nils and Aasa (Stanghelle) Faugstad. Baptized and confirmed at Scarville Evangelical Lutheran Church, he was an active, lifelong member. He attended Scarville Lutheran School and Bethany Lutheran High School, in Mankato, Minnesota, before graduating from Kiester High School, Kiester, Minnesota, in 1944.
Stationed in Hawaii at the end of the Second World War, Conrad served in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1946.
On September 21, 1952, he married Esther Petersen. They were subsequently blessed with seven children.
Conrad and Esther began their married life together farming in Winnebago County. They later moved to rural Emmons, Minnesota, where, for thirty years, Conrad became a district representative for the Aid Association for Lutherans, establishing many lifelong friendships with his clients.
He is survived by his loving wife, Esther, and seven children: Karin (Dan) Follmer, of Palatine, Illinois, Ruth (Laun) Sanderson, of Plymouth, Minnesota, Kathleen (Karl) Bloedel, of Lake Mills, Rhoda (Paul) Obermeyer, of Wells, Minnesota, Rachel (Thomas) Hamlin, of Minnetonka, Minnesota, Andrew (Debora) Faugstad, of Northwood, and A. Christine (Steven) Wold, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; fifteen grandchildren: Douglas (Erin) Follmer, Rachel (Brandon) Rogers, Kirsten Follmer, and her fiancé, Rusty Planert, Kelly Sanderson, and her fiancé, Brian Bisesi, Jennifer Sanderson, Chad (Talia) Bloedel, Nicolas (Kelly Jo) Bloedel, Alexander (Larissa) Bloedel, Elizabeth (Matthew) Sulzle, Constance (Arthur) Langhorst, Kara Obermeyer (Corey Dornack), Michael (Heather) Obermeyer, Matthew Obermeyer, Luke Hamlin, and Danielle Wold; thirteen great-grandchildren: Reagan, Katia, Isaiah, Anabelle, Charles, Noah, Christopher, Kaitlyn, Jacob, Joah, Makenna, Lane, and Brielle; a sister, Signe Olson; and a brother, Norman (Adela) Faugstad; as well as other brothers- and sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nils and Aasa; his brothers, Nels (Camilla) and Arnold Faugstad; and his brothers-in-law.
Known for his infectious laugh, Conrad had a great sense of humor. He was a beloved father, grandfather, and “Papa” to his great grandchildren. He was a man of deep conviction and faith. Conrad was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by his wife of sixty years, his family, and his friends.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday June 29, 2013, at the Scarville Synod Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, with Pastor Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, Friday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, IA 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at the Scarville Synod Cemetery north of Scarville, Iowa, with military rites conducted by the Lake Mills American Legion Post #235.
