Phyllis Jeanette Turvold
(July 3, 1924 - May 21, 2013)Phyllis J. Turvold, age 88, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea, Minnesota. At the time of her passing, she was a resident of the Lake Mills Care Center.
Phyllis Jeanette (Hylbak) Turvold was born in Perry, Iowa, on July 3, 1924, to Russell and Elizabeth (Streeter) Hylbak. At the age of six, she moved with her family to Lake Mills, Iowa. There, she attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1942. After her graduation, she worked for the Graphic Publishing Company until she retired.
On August 9, 1947, Phyllis married Elton Tony Turvold at Salem Lutheran Church. The couple made their home in Lake Mills. She and Elton owned and operated the popcorn stand in Lake Mills for over twenty-five years.
A member of Salem Lutheran Church, Phyllis participated in Ladies Aide and her circle as well as donating her time and talents whenever she could. She enjoyed reading, playing bridge, feeding the squirrels, scrapbooking, and visiting with friends and family.
Survivors include her two sons, Greg (Julie) Turvold, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Jack (LeAnn) Turvold, of Lewisville, Texas; four grandchildren, Angie (Kenny) Sink, of Belle Plaine, Minnesota, Cody Hanna, of Lewisville, Texas, Toni Turvold, of Spirit Lake, Iowa, and Tiffany (Dustin) Noble, also of Spirit Lake, Iowa; and many great grandchildren; a sister, Marilyn Newman, of St. Paul, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Lucille Hylbak-Severson and Ann Hylbak; and her best friend, Pat Thorson, of Lake Mills, Iowa; as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elton, in 1987; a grandchild, Ciera; three brothers, Leo, Laval, and Roger Hylbak; two brothers-in-law, Lloyd Newman and Don Severson; and a nephew, Gary Newman.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, May 25, 2013, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place in Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
Visitation will take place on Friday, May 24, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
