Bernard "Mike" Smith
(September 28, 1945 - May 30, 2013)Bernard “Mike” Smith, 67, of Buffalo Center, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at his home.
Bernard Michael Smith was born on September 28, 1945, to Bernard C. and Elizabeth (Stremfel) Smith in Kellogg, Iowa.
He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1963 and then went on to further his education at North Iowa Area Community College, Iowa State University, and Mankato State University.
On April 18, 1969, he married Deborah Quame. They were blessed with two children, Jason and Nikki.
A long time farmer in the Buffalo Center area, Mike also worked at Elmore Industries and Cummins Manufacturing. He enjoyed working outside and took pride in his yard and garden. Later, he enjoyed spending time with his grandsons, taking them for tractor rides and to get ice cream.
He is survived by his loving wife, Deb; his son, Jason (Angie), of Coralville, Iowa, and their children, Austin and Justin; his daughter, Nikki (Steve) Knowlton, of Charles City, Iowa, and their children, Renee, Abbey, and Cari; his brother, Tom (Sallie), of Buffalo Center, Iowa; his sisters, Ann (Jack) Coady, of Solon, Iowa, Barb (Alan) Agena, of Ankeny, Iowa, and Mary Smith, of Ames, Iowa; and his mother-in-law, Norma (Jim) Bosma; as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Elizabeth; his father-in-law, Orlando Quame; and his brothers-in-law, Greg and Bradley Quame.
There will be a private family funeral service. A public visitation will be held on Sunday, June 2, 2013, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery.
