Elton Peterson
(July 6, 1915 - June 24, 2009)Elton Peterson, 93, of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of Northwood, Iowa, died on Wednesday, June 24, 2009, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
One of eight siblings, Elton Peterson was born on July 6, 1915, in rural Worth County, Iowa, to George and Tillie (Butler) Peterson. Baptized and confirmed at Bristol Lutheran Church, rural Joice, he attended Bristol #4 country school.
On September 10, 1939, Elton married Nora Holstad at the Center Lutheran Church parsonage, Rev. Justin A. Peterson officiating. To this union, two sons were born, Larry and Harlan. The couple farmed in rural Northwood for fifty-four years before moving into Northwood and later into Lake Mills. Elton and Nora traveled to South Texas for the winters for twenty-four years where they enjoyed attending dances. Elton also liked to golf and fish. A lifelong member of Bristol Lutheran Church, he later became a member of Silver Lake Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife, Nora Peterson of Lake Mills; two sons, Larry (Patty) Peterson and Harlan (Sharon) Peterson, all of Des Moines, Iowa; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; and many extended relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Harry, Roy, Gilmer, James, and Emil Peterson; a great grandson, Blake Peterson; and two sisters, Alvina Geving/Hanson and Stella Hagen.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, June 28, 2009, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be at 1:30 PM, Monday, June 29, 2009, at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will take place at Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Northwood. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa or the Bristol Cemetery Association.
