Earl Junior Brackey
(November 15, 1924 - December 7, 2007)

Earl Brackey, age 83, of Mason City, formerly of Lake Mills, died Friday, December 7, 2007, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Earl Junior Brackey was born on November 15, 1924, in Aurora, Missouri, to Selmer and Irene (Ballard) Brackey. His family moved to Bristol in Worth County, Iowa. Earl entered the United States Army in 1943, fought for our country during World War II in the European Theater, and was honorably discharged in 1951.

In June of 1951, Earl married Bonnie Mae Escherich. The couple had three children: Rick Lee, Dan Ray, and Colleen Ananda Brackey.

In October of 1964, Earl married Floy Bernadine Salveson. The couple had a daughter, Penny Renae Brackey, and Earl also helped raise three step-children: Carolyn, Patricia, and Rickey Brady.

Residing in Lake Mills for eighteen years, Earl worked for Ed Holland and for Waste Systems. He enjoyed fishing, country music, jigsaw puzzles, and collecting coins and scrapping iron.

Earl entered the Manly Nursing and Rehab Center in March of 2005 and moved to the Heritage Care Center in Mason City in 2006. Very fortunate, he received excellent care during his last days at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Survivors include his children and step-children, Rick Lee Brackey, and his wife, Kim, of Durant, Iowa, Dan Ray Brackey, and his wife, Donna, of Litchfield, Illinois, Colleen Ananda Kilborn, and her husband, Tom, of Mason City, Iowa, Penny Renae Ledbeter, and her husband, Tom, of Charles City, Iowa, Carolyn M. Kielty, and her husband, Bob, also of Charles City, Iowa, and Patricia Maryann Winters, of Delona, Minnesota; seventeen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Franklin Brackey, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Robert Brackey, of St. Paul, Minnesota; and a sister, Mary May Lechman, of Palmdale, California; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Selmer and Irene; a sister, Betty Jean Ouverson; and a step-son, Rickey Samuel Brady.

The family wishes to thank all who, with their support and prayers, helped to make Earl feel comfortable until his entry into Heaven.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the Lake Mills Synod Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Rev. Karl Hermanson officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Otto/Chose Post #235. Inurnment will be held at a later date. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa, 232 2nd St. SE, Mason City, Iowa 50401.
