(December 5, 1938 - May 2, 2007)

Esmeralda Olson, 68, of Thompson, passed away on Wednesday, May 2, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center of North Iowa.

Esmeralda Olson was born on December 5, 1938, to Rufino and Leocadia (Cruz) Collazo. After spending her youth in Puerto Rico, she moved to Iowa in the mid-1960s.

Essie worked at Winnebago Industries after arriving in Iowa. In 1971, she met and married Allen Olson. They retired after 32 years of service to Winnebago.

Essie enjoyed wintering in Arizona, golfing, fishing, spending time with her cat and dog, and especially visiting with her best friends, Joy and Verdon Austad, who were like family.

Essie is survived by her husband, Allen Olson, of Thompson; her son, Juan Sanchez, of Tampa, Florida; her granddaughter, Melinda Sanchez, of Nebraska; her nephew, Effren Carraquillo, of Tampa, Florida; and her mother-in-law, Opal Olson, of Thompson. Essie loved them all dearly.

Essie was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Reuben.

The funeral service for Esmeralda Olson will be held at 10:30 AM, Monday, May 7, 2007, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with Rev. Mark Decker officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Sunday, May 6, 2007, at the Winter Funeral Home in Thompson, Iowa.
