Keith A. Hofbauer
(August 24, 1946 - December 30, 2012)Keith Hofbauer, age 66, of Titonka, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 30, 2012, at the Hancock County Memorial Hospital in Britt.
Keith Allen Hofbauer was born on September 24, 1946, to George and Dorothy Hofbauer. Baptized and confirmed at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center, he graduated from Buffalo Center High School. Afterwards, he worked for the Sherman Nursery and Winnebago Industries.
On September 27, 1970, he married Carol Ann Swan at Good Hope Lutheran Church. He was then employed as a Titonka City policeman and became a deputy sheriff under William Lampright. In October 1970, Keith and Carol started their first Floral and Landscaping Shop in Titonka. They also ran Hofbauer’s Christmas Land out of their garage for thirty years. Their business expanded, and in 1986, they partnered with Mark Anderson in Buffalo Center. In addition, they started the Greenhouse in Lakota in 1989. With Mark Anderson, Keith also began a catering business in 2004. He really appreciated visiting with the thousands of people who enjoyed his great food.
In 1994, Keith joined the Titonka City Council where he served in various capacities over the next twelve years, including that of the Titonka Mayor for four years.
Keith's hobbies included collecting all sorts of antiques. He attended auctions to increase his collections. He also began judging at County Fairs in Minnesota and Iowa. Passionate about sharing his knowledge, he enjoyed seeing the 4-H kids smile when they received their blue ribbons.
Blessed with five grandchildren, he spent much of his time attending their various events or just spending time with them.
Keith is survived by one daughter, Jacki (Mark) Niss, and one son, Jeffery (Stacey); five grandchildren, Andrea and Alyssa Niss, Samantha Pettit, and Jacob and Melissa Hofbauer; one great granddaughter, Sydnee Todorovic; his brothers, Forrest, Ronald, and Jim; and his sister, Judy. Keith will also be greatly missed by his business partner and friend Mark Anderson.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Swan; his parents; his in-laws; his grandparents; his sister, Shirley; and his brother, Dale.
Keith was known as a family man. His laughter and love will be remembered by his family and friends and will never be forgotten by anyone blessed to know him.
Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM, Monday, January 7, 2012, at Good Hope Lutheran Church in Titonka with Pastor Wayne Garman officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, January 6, 2012, from 4:30-6:30 PM at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center. Interment will be at Good Hope Cemetery in Titonka.
