Marlin D. Olson, 81, of rural Leland, Iowa, died Saturday, November 10, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Marlin Duane Olson was born on October 6, 1931, in Winnebago County, Iowa, to Clarence and Gena (Langfald) Olson. He attended country school in Winnebago County.

On August 17, 1950, Marlin married Ruth Stockseth at St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in rural Belmond, Iowa. The couple made their home on the Olson’s family farmland in rural Leland where Marlin lived his entire life.

A hard working farmer his whole life, Marlin also had a knack for repairing things. He and Ruth enjoyed bowling in their earlier days and always looked forward to traveling with family and friends.

Marlin was a lifelong member of Center Evangelical Lutheran Church.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-two years, Ruth, of rural Leland, Iowa; his children, Dennis (Wendy) Olson, of Des Moines, Iowa, and Barb Neumann, of Forest City, Iowa; his grandchildren, Matthew Olson, of Iowa City, Iowa, Jason Neumann, of Waverly, Iowa, Megan Hoffman, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Brittany Richards, of Brookings, South Dakota; and a brother, LaVerne (Clarice) Olson, of Clarks Grove, Minnesota; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Marlin was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Gena; a son, Dean Olson; a brother, Charles Olson; a sister, Orletta Wagner; and a son-in-law, Connie Neumann.

Funeral services for Marlin Olson will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at Center Evangelical Lutheran Church, rural Leland, Iowa, with Pastor Thomas Rank officiating. Burial will take place in Center Lutheran Cemetery.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Wednesday.
