Johnnie Oftedahl
(May 1, 1917 - October 7, 2012)

Johnnie Oftedahl, age 95, of Buffalo Center, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012, at the Titonka Care Center.

Johnnie Oftedahl, the oldest son of John and Anna (Fredericks) Oftedahl, was born on a farm near Buffalo Center on May 1, 1917. His family moved into Buffalo Center when he was young, and he lived in town all of his life. He attended Buffalo Center school through the eighth grade.

He married Genevieve Dearing on August 24, 1940, at the Baptist Parsonage in Swea City. Two son, John and Greg, were born to this union.

Johnnie drove his own trucks for twenty-five years, both locally and long distance. In the later years of his trucking career, he purchased J&J Livestock and bought hogs for seventeen years for John Morrell and Company out of Estherville, Iowa. He retired in 1974.

He and Gen enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling. Later, they bought a trailer in Mission, Texas, where they spent the winter months. Gen passed away in 1995, and John went to live at the Titonka Care Center and called it home. He enjoyed all the people there, staff and residents alike, especially the “man” across the hall. He also enjoyed playing Bingo, a game at which he excelled.

Johnnie left this earth on Sunday, October 7, to rejoin his beloved wife, Gen.

He leaves behind his two sons: John (Karen) Oftedahl, of Buffalo Center, and Greg (Bridget) Oftedahl, of Hillsboro, Oregon; his grandchildren: Sherry (Tony) Rahm and Teresa, Cory (Kim), Colin, and Patrick Oftedahl; his great-grandchildren: Justin (Jennifer) Ruby, Megan (Caitlen) Friedow, Conner Hunt, Savannah and Mercedes Rahm, Josie and Grant Oftedahl, and Mackenzie Oftedahl-Thompson; his great-great grandchildren: Addison and Carson Friedow; his sisters: Phyllis Morris, of Mason City, Iowa, and Marjory Kulzne, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Genevieve; his sisters, Faye, Jenny, and Deanna; and his brother, Phillip.

Services will be held at 10:30 AM, Thursday, October 11, 2012, at The United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Deb Devine officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center.
