Anna J. Cooper
March 5, 1921 - October 11, 2012

FOREST CITY - Anna J. Cooper, 91, of Forest City, died Thursday, October 11, 2012, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Anna J. Cooper was born on the family farm on March 5, 1921, to Clarence and Olive (Elifson) Oline in Independence, Iowa. After graduating from Independence High School, she attended Wartburg College before leaving to work for Delta Airlines as an air controller in Birmingham, Alabama, and later Atlanta, Georgia. After leaving Delta Airlines, she returned to Independence. During this time, she met Elliott E. Cooper whom she married on November 25, 1945, a union that lasted more than sixty-two years, ending only with his death in 2008.

After their marriage, the couple moved to Des Moines, Iowa, while Elliott, Sr., completed his education at Drake University. During this time their two sons, Elliott, Jr., and Robert, were born. After Elliott, Sr., completed law school, the family moved to Forest City, Iowa.

Anna had many interests including a love of flower gardening and a wide variety of pets. An excellent seamstress, she made many of the boy's clothes as they were growing up. She was an avid fisherman and thoroughly enjoyed the many trips she and Elliott, Sr., made to Northern Manitoba chasing after the "big one." Avid travelers, she and Elliott, Sr., traveled the world together, yet were happiest at home with their family. She loved sports especially when enthusiastically watching her children and grandchildren play. In later years, she enjoyed recounting to her grandchildren life on the farm when she was growing up in the '20s and '30s: horses instead of tractors, lanterns instead of light bulbs, hand pumps instead of water faucets, and, of course, country schools instead of central community schools.

An extremely important part of her life was her Church. Very active in many areas of church life, she found deep satisfaction from participating in several church groups, always lending a helping hand whenever and wherever she could. A Christian woman, she led a Christian life.

She is survived by her sons, Elliott Cooper, Jr., of Forest City, and Robert Cooper, and his wife, Donna, also of Forest City, and her children, Katy and Derek Juhl; her grandson, Michael Cooper, of West Palm Beach, Florida; and her granddaughter, Amy Cooper, and her special friend, Joe Johnson, of Mason City, Iowa.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Sunday, October 14, 2012, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Rod Hopp officiating.
Burial will be at Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 PM, Saturday, October 13, 2012, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Those who wish to make a gift in memory of Anna J. Cooper are asked to consider Hospice of North Iowa.
