Joseph Charles Keough
April 14, 1925 - October 10, 2005

Joseph Charles Keough died at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa, on October 10, 2005, at the age of 80 years.

He was born in Britt, Iowa, the son of Thomas and Loretta Keough and was raised by Carrie and Charles Hoeft of Garner where he received his education, graduating from Garner High School.

He entered the US Navy and served as a medic during World War II. Following his honorable discharge, he lived with his brother in Kansas City for a time while working for the railroad.

On September 19, 1948 he married Aileen Enright at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City. They farmed near Garner for several years before moving to Forest City where Joe worked for the Forest City Produce Company. He later owned and operated the Wapsie Hatchery in Forest City. After selling that, he began the Wapsie Poultry Service. Joe never really retired but continued to enjoy his chickens and was still active in another business, Keo Feathers, supplying high quality feathers for use in fly fishing. Joe loved to travel, and he and Aileen would take these feathers all over the country.

Joe also enjoyed camping, hunting, and fishing, above all. He treasured time spent with his family and liked to share a quiet afternoon with his chickens. He was a member of the American Legion and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

He is survived by his wife of fifty-seven years, Aileen Keough, of Forest City and five children: Gregory Keough, of Forest City, Ronald Keough, and his wife Jeanette, of Forest City, Sandra Peterson, and her husband, Dennis, of Lake Mills, Rose Marie Wicker, and her husband, Brad, of Forest City, and Glenda Keough, and her husband, Tim, of Miller, Iowa; sixteen grandchildren and nine and a half great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Keough, of Amsterdam, Missouri, and a half-brother, Kenny Chapman, of California.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bill, Jim, and Cliff Keough, his half-brother, Carl Chapman; his sisters, Mary Morrisey and Loretta Long; a grandson, Nathan Wicker, and a granddaughter, Heidi.
