James Donovan Kvale
(May 23, 1936 - June 25, 2012)James D. Kvale, age 76, died Monday, June 25, 2012, at his home in Lake Mills.
James Donovan Kvale was born on a farm northwest of Lake Mills, Iowa, on May 23, 1936, to Rudolph and Olga (Mostrom) Kvale. He was baptized at North Prairie Lutheran Church and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church. James attended country school through the 8th grade and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1954.
Following high school, Jim lived with his sister, Doris, and her husband, Dick, working on their farm near Radcliffe, Iowa. He later returned home to farm with his dad.
On December 19, 1958, Jim married Gloria Sveen at Silver Lake Lutheran Church in rural Northwood, Iowa. The couple then bought the Kvale family farm northwest of Lake Mills and farmed it for many years. In July of 2004, Jim and Gloria moved into Lake Mills.
Jim adored his family and loved spending time with them whenever he could.
Survivors include his wife of fifty-three years, Gloria Kvale, of Lake Mills; six children, Donna (Steve) Howard, of St. Louis Park, Minnesota, Jeff (Jenae) Kvale, of Harris, Minnesota, John (Julie) Kvale of Isanti, Minnesota, Ron (Chris Curcuru) Kvale, of Burbank, California, Paul Kvale, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Darcy (TJ) Hauser, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; nine grandchildren, Tabitha (Jeff) Johnson, Tara (Jeremy) Bzdok, Blake Kvale, Brandon Kvale, Darrick (Chantel) Kvale, James (Darla) Kvale, Hadley Howard, Brooke Hauser, and Ethan Hauser; and nine great-grandchildren, Chase, Gavin, Sam, Haley, Austin, Kendra, Kylie, Ella, and Evie. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Violet Kvale and Shirley Kvale, both of Lake Mills, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Dick Ellwood, of Sun City, Arizona; as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and four siblings, Robert Kvale, Vernell Kvale, Doris Ellwood, and a brother in infancy.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, June 29, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will take place in Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
Visitation will be on Thursday, June 28, 2012, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
