August 25, 1852 - January 2, 1929

Harvey B. Taylor, son of William and Harriett Taylor (née Jewett), was born in Oneida county, New York, August 25, 1852. He passed on to the Heavenly world at his late home in Thompson, Iowa, on the morning of January 2, 1929, at the age of 76 years, 4 months, and 8 days.

In the year 1870 he moved with his parents from Oneida county to Winnebago county, Iowa, where they settled on a farm 4 1/2 miles north-west of Forest City.

On October 28, 1875, he was united in marriage to Miss Martha E. Eiels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Talleck Eiels, another of the old pioneer families of Winnebago county. Mr. and Mrs. Taylor started their married life on a farm north of Forest City where they resided four years, after which they removed to Northwood, Iowa, living there about ten years. In about 1886 they returned to Winnebago county, settling on the George Brett farm, two miles west of what is now the town of Thompson. They lived on this farm seven years when they bought a farm 3/4 of a mile west of Thompson. For 15 years while residing here Mr. Taylor was engaged in the coal business, thus being one of Thompson's pioneer business men. He sold the home farm in 1914 and in 1915 moved to the town of Thompson. For more that 53 years Mr. and Mrs. Taylor walked life's pathway together, each devoted to the happiness of the other. Two sons were born to them Charles Lyman and F. Eugine.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his son, Charles Lyman, and his brother, Lyman, who passed on about five years ago. He leaves to mourn his passing, his devoted wife, his son, F. Eugine, and granddaughter, Vivian V. Taylor, of Wykoff, Minnesota; one brother, J.J. Taylor, of Forest township, Winnebago county; two sisters, Mrs. Leora Peters, Saskatchewan, Canada, and Mrs. Mary Hunt, of Madison, Kansas; and many other relatives and friends.

On February 11, 1900, Mr. and Mrs. Taylor united with the Methodist Episcopal Church under the ministry of Rev. H.E. Hutchinson. During these years Mr. Taylor has been active in the work of the Master and his church, having served as a member of the Official Board in various capacities during the years. He was always faithful in the attendance of the services of the church of his choice and was beloved by the whole community.

Funeral services were conducted by his late pastor, Rev. Belden Weikel, at the family home and the Methodist Church, Friday afternoon, January 4, 1929. Interment was made in the Oakwood cemetery at Forest City. Music at the services was in charge of Mrs. E.C. O'Hair, Misses Ruth Hedrickson, Florence and Bernice Wilson and Mrs. Beldon Weikel. They sang "Lead Kindly Light", " The City Four Square" and "Nearer my God to Thee". The pallbearers were: G. W. Ostrander, J. H. Batchelor, C. C. Peckham, S. E. Isaac, C. F. Lehman and Logan Quale. The pastor used for his text II Timothy 4:6,7,8.
