Craig L. Hauge
(January 6, 1959 - March 15, 2012)FOREST CITY -Craig Hauge, age 53, of Forest City, played his final round on the Bear Creek Golf Course in Forest City on March 15, 2012, and was rushed to Mercy Medical Center, Mason City, where he was later pronounced dead.
A life-long Forest City, Iowa, resident, Craig Lynn Hauge was born here on January 6, 1959, the son of Arnold and Helen (Keyser) Hauge. Having participated in football, basketball, track, and baseball, he graduated from Forest City High School in 1977. After completing his education, he worked for the railroad and Bartleson Construction before accepting a position with 3M in 1981 where he worked for the past thirty-one years.
He married Teresa Heimdal in 1979 in Forest City, Iowa. Three sons were born to this union, Jeremy, Benjamin, and Matthew. In 2006, Craig and Teresa divorced.
Craig loved riding horses as well as actively participating in softball and bowling leagues, but as his boys grew, his interests shifted more to teaching them and becoming their biggest fan. A long time Atlanta Braves fan even through the bad years, Craig wore his easily recognizable Brave’s jacket for years. With great fondness, Craig often recalled the time he spent with all three of his sons traveling to Milwaukee to watch the Braves play a series.
Very close to his parents, Craig visited them regularly at their farm outside Fertile. He found joy in helping with the horses, bailing hay, and just enjoying the company of his family. He proudly supported Forest City athletic programs as well as the collegiate and recreational activities his children took part in whatever the event. No matter the distance, Craig made it a point to arrive there early. Having two sons serve in the United States Army, he also proudly supported the US Military. His willingness to do anything for his family was second to none.
Throughout the last six years of his life, Craig became an avid blood donor giving over seven gallons of blood. He also began requesting birthday and holiday gifts for less fortunate children. During this time as well, he took up a great passion for golf, walking, and a healthier/social lifestyle. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and co-workers.
Craig is survived by his parents, Arnold and Helen Hauge; his brothers: Paul Hauge, of Britt, Iowa, and Kent (Carmen) Hauge, of Kiester, Minnesota; his sons: Jeremy Hauge, of Des Moines, Iowa, Benjamin (Julie) Hauge, of Ogden, Kansas, and Matthew Hauge, of Mankato, Minnesota. Craig was preceded in death by his grandparents, an infant brother (Dennis Arnold), and infant sister (Paulette Kae).
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the Fertile Lutheran Church in Fertile, Iowa, with Lay Pastor David Halverson officiating. Inurnment will be held later this spring.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Sunday, March 18, 2012, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and continue an hour prior to service at the church.
