Gene Black, 84

Funeral services for Gene black, 84, were held Tuesday, May 12, 2:00 p.m. at United Methodist Church with Rev. Lois Abel officiating. Interment was at Olena Mound Cemetery with winter Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Marlene Krull was the organist and vocalists were Todd Kiewlet, Herb Pannkuk, Otto Boehm, Jack DeVries, Curt Bashams, and Gary Garst.

D. Eugene "Gene" Black was born in Randolph, Nebraska on August 15, 1913 to John and Jennie (Sherwood) Black. He attended country school and high school in Spencer, Nebraska. He came to Anthon to work for Quaker Oats Company, from there he was transferred to the Rodman Farmers Co-op Elevator where he met and married Eva Lawman in November 1940. Gene managed elevators at Ware and Roelyn prior to coming to Buffalo Center in 1946.

After retiring, he loved delivering Winnebago Motor Homes throughout the country, often times visiting his nieces and nephews. He enjoyed his family and many sporting activities.

Gene passed away on Saturday, May 9, 1998 at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.

Gene is survived by wife Eva, of Buffalo Center; his four children; Patti and her husband, Tom, Wilson of Buffalo Center; Doug and his wife, Nancy, Black of Lancaster, Texas; Sandra and her husband, Ed Reynolds of Ames; Linda and her husband, Mike, Miller of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; one foster-daughter; Carol Black Jones of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; 11 grandchildren; one brother, Ralph and his wife, Florentine, Black of Mena, Arkansas; along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two children: Barbara and Ronald; three sisters, Julia Johnson, Alpha Waggnor, Esther Heiderman, and two brothers: Herman and Roy.
