(August 6, 1925 - January 8, 2012)

Wallace “Wally” K. Swenson, 86, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Sunday, January 8, 2012, at his home in Lake Mills.

Wallace Kenneth Swenson was born August 6, 1925, at home in Winnebago County near Leland, Iowa, to Gilbert O. and Ellen M. (Charlson) Swenson. Wally was baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills and attended school in Leland and Lake Mills.

On March 29, 1967, Wally married Mary Ash in West Bend, Iowa. The couple made their home in Lake Mills where Wally farmed for a while, worked at Larson Manufacturing, Winnebago Industries, and Fleetguard Industries as a production line worker.

Wally (a.k.a. Ole Endgate) loved to joke around, always having witty remarks for his friends and family. He enjoyed trapping, vegetable gardening, and metal detecting. Wally also liked to spend free time fishing, both locally and elsewhere such as Canada and Lake Michigan. He loved his dogs and cats, lutefisk, the Grand Café, and having coffee with his many friends.

He is lovingly survived by his wife, Mary, of Lake Mills; his children, Marti (Darwin) Lee, of Lake Mills, James R. (Darla) Seifert, of Big Fork, Minnesota, Dorothy Scholl, of Lake Mills, and Jerry Olson, of Marion, Arkansas; eleven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter. Wally is also survived by his siblings, Rhoda Brue, of Lake Mills; Oswald (Amy) Swenson, of Lake Mills, and Marie (Donald) Luff, of Arcadia, California; as well as a sister-in-law, Marlys Swenson, of Rake, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Arnold Ottjes, of Austin, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Ellen Swenson; a brother, Gordon Swenson; a sister, Mildrid Ottjes; his brother-in-law, Charles Brue; and a brother in infancy, James Richard Swenson.

Funeral service will be at 1:30 PM on Thursday, January 12, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Wednesday, January 11, 2012, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will take place at the Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa.
