Betty Y. Schmidthuber, age 83, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Monday, December 26, 2011, from cancer at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills.

Betty Yvonne (Lukecart) Schmidthuber was born on January 19, 1928, in Hutchinson, Minnesota, to Cecil and Leone (Fisher) Lukecart. She grew up and attended schools in Albert Lea, Minnesota.

On July 17, 1954, Betty married Dale R. Schmidthuber in Mason City, Iowa. They moved to Lake Mills during a blizzard on March 10, 1956.

Betty worked at Deluxe Manufacturing in Lake Mills for many years before she fulfilled a dream to become a hairstylist. On March 11, 1976, she graduated from Capri Cosmetology College in Mason City, Iowa. Upon graduation and receiving her license from the State of Iowa, she opened Betty’s Hair Styling on Main Street in Lake Mills. She had her salon until she retired, and then, she was able to enjoy her passion for golf with Dale and their many friends.

Betty is survived by her husband, Dale, of Lake Mills, Iowa; her two children, Karen Christensen, of New Mexico, and Lee Schmidthuber, of Pennsylvania; her five grandchildren, Jodi Christensen, of Texas, Joshua Christensen, of New Mexico, and Amy, Taylor, and Sam Schmidthuber, of Pennsylvania; her three great-granddaughters, Jordyn Yates, of Texas, as well as Celia and Gabriela Christensen, of New Mexico; two sisters-in-law, Marjorie Lukecart, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Doris Stamatelos, of West Des Moines, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Leo Schmidthuber, of Lake Mills, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Betty was preceded in death by one son, Craig Schmidthuber; her parents; three brothers, Kenneth, Marshall, and Robert Lukecart; a sister, Dorothy Lukecart McFarland; and several brothers- and sisters-in-law.

Betty’s family would like to thank and pay a special tribute to Nancy and Rick Oltman. Betty always referred to Nancy as her guardian angel.

A memorial service for Betty Schmidthuber will be held at a later date at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa. Betty wished to be cremated, and her ashes will be placed to rest at Salem Memorial Cemetery in rural Lake Mills.
