December 10, 1947 - July 27, 2011LELAND - Carolyn L. Moriarity, age 63, of Leland, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at her home in Leland.
Carolyn Louise Moriarity was born in Waterloo, Iowa, on December 10, 1947, the daughter of Lester and Norma (Cain) Ritter. She received her education in the Maquoketa Valley School System.
On November 8, 1969, she married Michael Moriarity in Earlville, Iowa. In 1972, after Michael's discharge from the service, the couple made their home in Forest City. Several years later, they moved to their present home in Leland.
Carolyn loved doing ceramics and painting. She was an avid reader, and she and her grandson, Thomas, shared a deep enjoyment of the adventures of Harry Potter. She was a wonderful wife and mother who could come up with the most creative ways to use duct tape. She treasured spending time with her family and her friends.
Carolyn is survived by her husband, Michael Moriarity, of Leland and three children: Kenneth M. Moriarity, of Des Moines, Iowa, Norma (Johnny) Hutchinson, of New Market, Tennessee, and Jennifer Folkerts, and special friend, Steven Mary, of Thompson, Iowa. Also surviving are seven grandchildren: Anthony, Avery, Meressa, Thomas, Bryanna, Trinita and Natalie; two brothers, George and Tom Ritter; and a sister, Carol Cafferty; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Lynn.
As per her wishes, her body has been cremated. A Memorial Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 PM on Friday, July 29, 2011, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM on Saturday, July 30, 2011, at West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland with Pastor Edward Bard officiating. Her ashes will be scattered at a future date in the Smokey Mountains of Tennessee.
