Mrs. Wise died at her home here on Friday evening, July 27, at the age of 85 years, 8 months and 16 days. A month previously she suffered a broken arm in a fall.
Ida May Babcock was born November 11, 1859, in Tioga county, Pennsylvania, the daughter of Simeon and Sarah Babcock. At the age of four she moved with her parents to Rochester, Minnesota, later going to Wells, Minnesota, where she grew to womanhood.
On March 6, 1878, she was united in marriage to Charles Fremont Wise, and to this union were born two sons, Clare and Galen, and three daughters, Mrs. Lois Donnelly, Mrs. Viola Murray and Zella.
Their early married years were spent at Winnebago and Blue Earth, Minnesota, and in 1906 the family came to Buffalo Center where Mr. Wise was engaged in the harness business. Shortly after her arrival she and her daughters became affiliated with the Methodist church.
Her husband died in 1910 of acute peritonites and each of her sons preceded her in death, Clare passing on at Slayton, Minnesota, in 1909 and Galen at Forest City in 1940.
Besides her three daughters there are left to mourn her passing eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and one brother, Orvis Babcock, of Minneapolis, Minn.
Funeral services were held at the Methodist church at 2 p.m. Monday, July 30 with interment immediately following at Graceland cemetery. Rev. A.T. Maberry, who was in charge of the services, used as his theme the story of Job which Mrs. Wise had been reading at the time of her death.
Those attending the funeral services from out-of-town were Mr. and Mrs. Ray Murray and daughters of Des Moines, Mrs. Ada Wise of Slayton, Minnesota, Mrs. Clare Margeson and son of Omaha, Nebraska, LuVerne and Charles Wise of Mason City, Miss Leone Taylor of Mariaon, Ohio, Mrs. Eleanor Donnelly of Yankton, South Dakota, and Mrs Ed Steinmetz of Williams, Iowa.
Mrs. Wise will be remembered by her many friends as one who obtained from the words of the Bible the strength to carry on through these many years.
