(August 2, 1919 - April 4, 2011)

Alvin Senne, age 91, of Thompson, passed away peacefully Monday, April 4, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, Iowa.

Alvin Senne was born August 2, 1919, in Bingham Township, rural Woden, Iowa. He was the son of Chris and Louise (Baade) Senne. Alvin grew up farming with his dad in the Woden area. In 1935, he moved to the Senne Farmstead south of Thompson. Then, he met the love of his life, Marjorie “Mert” Finer. They were married on March 6, 1958, and were blessed with four beautiful children whom they both cherished. Through their love and strong Christian beliefs, they provided these children with an upbringing richly steeped in rural family farm traditions. In 1997, after 40 years on the Senne Family Farm, Alvin retired to Thompson, Iowa.

In retirement, he enjoyed golfing, farming, watching Minnesota Twins Baseball, spending time with his family, wintering in Arizona, and in his later years, taking a morning coffee break with the men at Hometown Market. Alvin was also a lifelong member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson, Iowa.

Those left to cherish his memory are his children: Dennis (Joan) Senne, of Ames, Iowa, Douglas (Bette) Senne, of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Brenda (Don Woodwick) Senne-Robinson, of Thompson, Iowa, and Becky (John) Kem, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; ten grandchildren: Todd (Faye) Senne, of Des Moines, Iowa, Tanya (Steve) Austin, of Ames, Iowa, Travis (Jennifer) Senne, of Des Moines, Iowa, Tiffany (Chris Nguyen) Senne, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; Troy Senne, of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, Nate Robinson, of Des Moines, Iowa, Zach (Marissa) Robinson, of Des Moines, Iowa, Amber Robinson, of Forest City, Iowa, Danielle Kem, of Iowa City, Iowa, and Alex Kem, of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; eight great-grandchildren: Meredith, Jake, and Violet Senne; Braden, and Andrew Senne; Riley, Ty, and Allie Austin; two sisters: Lucille Friesenborg, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Ethel Mannes, of Lake Mills, Iowa; and one brother, Marlin (Marj) Senne, of Lake Mills, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
