Marcelle Janet Anderson
(October 1, 1924 - April 5, 2011)

Marcelle J. Anderson, age 86, of Lake Mills, died Tuesday, April 05, 2011, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, Iowa.

Marcelle Janet (Midlang) Anderson was born on October 1, 1924, in Lake Mills, Iowa, to John S. and Martha (Medlang) Midlang. She attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School where she was the band queen during the Mason City Band Festival.

On July 11, 1942, Marcelle married Arden H. Anderson. The couple made their home east of Lake Mills where Arden farmed and Marcelle enjoyed life as a homemaker and farm wife. Learning how to garden, sew, and quilt over the years, she took care of their family and decorated cakes.

Marcelle worked at Monk’s Grill and owned and operated the motel in Lake Mills. She also worked as an inspector at Fleetguard Industries for a number of years.

She definitely served as a rock in her family, both spiritually and emotionally, not only for her children, but also for her grandchildren. Always willing to support her children and grandchildren emotionally, Marcelle unconditionally offered them her nonjudgmental support and encouragement. They could always lean on her shoulder when they needed her. She was also proud to be part of the American Legion Auxiliary and an RSVP volunteer at school. She loved bowling. Spiritually, Marcelle loved the Lord and was active at Salem Lutheran Church as a member of circle and the altar guild and as president of the WELCA.

Survivors include her seven children, Larry (Michelle) Anderson, of Franklin, Kentucky, Sharon Johnson, of Lake Mills, Duane (Joyce) Anderson, of Joice, Bruce (Patti) Anderson, of Lake Mills, Marlin (Bonnie) Anderson, of Angora, Minnesota, Janice (Chris Borland) Anderson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Darrel (Andrea) Anderson, of Lake Mills; her grandchildren, Chris Anderson, Andy Anderson, Neil Anderson, Jason Christianson, Lori (Paul) Mason, Karen (Brian) Sterrenberg, Lynne Johnson, Stacy (Jason) Gisel, Alissa Abrams, Jill Anderson, Rachel (Chris) Lawson, Kristen Tue, Mitchel Anderson, Ema Anderson, Kelsie Anderson, and Keith Anderson; and her great grandchildren, Jaden, Savannah, Audrey Jo, Summer, Hannah, Tori, Rylan, Brooklyn, Grant, Payton, Gavin, Ethan, and one on-the-way. She is also survived by a sister, Darlene (Roger) Fosness, of Waseca, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Doris (Jim) Tweed, of Lake Mills; a brother-in-law, LaVerne (Beverly) Anderson, of St. Charles, Iowa; and many extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arden; a son-in-law Roger Johnson; a grandson John Tue; a sister, Lorraine Wilson; an infant sister, Doris; a brother, Virgil Midland; her parents-in-law, Christ and Wilma Anderson; and her brother- and sister-in-law, Don and Delores Anderson.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, April 8, 2011, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating. Burial will be in Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 7, 2011, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
