April 1, 1925 - February 21, 2011

FOREST CITY - Goldie G. Borg, age 85, formerly of Forest City, presently residing in Decorah, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at the Aase Hauge Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Goldie Glenna was born April 1, 1925, to Chester and Evelyn (Blank) Geddes. She resided on the family farm in Hayfield, Iowa, with her parents until graduating from Hayfield High School in 1943. She then attended Waldorf College, graduating with a degree as a legal secretary in 1945. She met her future husband, Orville Borg, of Forest City, during the war, and upon his return home, they became engaged and subsequently married on September 22, 1946, at the Methodist Church in Hayfield.

After marrying, she and Orville carried on the traditions of the Borg family farm in rural Forest City until retiring from farming in 2002. They then moved into town, taking up residence in her parents' former home. They enjoyed spending many winters in Florida as well as traveling throughout the United States and Europe.

Goldie served as the First Baptist Church secretary for 20 years from the mid-1960s through the mid-1980s. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, singing, researching family geneology, and playing the organ and accordion.
She adored being a grandmother to her two grandchildren, Ethan and Erica Bjelland, and attended numerous school and church functions in support of their endeavors.

Goldie is survived by her daughter, Sue Bjelland (Scott), and her two grandchildren, Ethan and Erica, all of Decorah; a sister-in-law, Mildred Ostrander, of Titonka, a brother-in-law, Don Chodur, of Kensett, and a sister-in-law, Arlys Hendrickson, and her husband, Nelson, of Humboldt, as well as by many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Orville, and her parents.

Funeral service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City with Pastor Doug Snyder officiating.
Burial will be at the Madison Township Cemetery in Forest City.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 PM on Friday, February 25, 2011, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, and will continue an hour prior to the service at the church.
