Amos Calvin Lemme
January 31, 1902 - September 24, 1989

Amos Calvin Lemme, 87, died Sunday September 24, 1989 at the Good Samaritan Center in Waukon. Funeral services were held Wednesday September 27 at 11 a.m. at Zion United Church of Christ with the Rev. Henry Heinbuch officiating.
Burial was in Oakland Cemetery with Martin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Amos was born January 31, 1902 to the Rev. Ferdinand Gottlieb and Lydia (Bauercamper) Lemme in Thompson, Iowa. He attended rural schools in Winnebago County through the eighth grade. On June 20, 1929 he was united in marriage with Alice Anderson in her home east of Waukon. He worked in the grocery business all of his life. Amos was employed at West End Grocery in Waukon; owned and operated Lemme Grocery in Maynard for six years; Margaret Ann Grocery in Sarasota, Florida and Red Owl Grocery in Rochester, Minnesota. He retired in 1967.

Survivors include his wife, Alice; three sisters, Mrs. Sarah Kiesau of Waukon, Martha DeLap of Lexington, Nebraska, and Alma McFarland of Britt, Iowa; a brother Ted Lemme of Tigard, Oregon and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by five brothers, Ben, Dave, Paul, Carl and Dan, and four sisters, Esther, Ruth, Paula and Clara.

Casket bearers were Paul, Charles, and Keith Lemme, Frank Hager, John Kerndt, and John Shafer.
