Agnes O. Carlson
March 14, 1912 - December 19, 2010Agnes Carlson, age 98, of Forest City, died Sunday, December 19, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.
Agnes O. Carlson was born in Leland, Iowa, on March 14, 1912, the daughter of Albert O. and Annie (Moen) Carlson. She graduated from Leland High School, continued her education at Waldorf College in Forest City and graduated from the Lutheran Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Agnes taught school for many years in several Iowa communities ~ Leland, Lehigh and Roland. She later found employment as a bookkeeper, working for Augsburg Publishing House, the Lutheran Evangelistic Movement and the Lutheran Bible Institute. She was an avid reader and enjoyed a trip to Norway.
In the early 1980s, Agnes made her home in Forest City at the Town Square Apartments. Failing health forced her to enter the Manly Care Center in Manly, Iowa. She returned to Forest City in the early 1990s and made her home at the Good Samaritan Care Center. She died there on Sunday, December 19, 2010, at the age of 98 years.
Agnes is survived by her sister, Ethel Haugen, of Wanamingo, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Odin Carlson, her sister, Ruth Monson, her twin brother, Art Carlson, her sister, Henrietta Carlson, who died as a young child, and another sister, Henrietta Vogen.
Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on Wednesday, December 22, 2010, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home in Forest City with Vicar Corey Smith of Immanuel Lutheran Church officiating. Visitation will be held an hour prior to service. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.
