Damian Villela, Sr.
(November 9, 1954 - November 8, 2010)

Damian Villela, Sr., age 55, of Thompson, Iowa, died Monday, November 8, 2010, one day before his birthday, at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He had fought a lengthy battle with several rare diseases including severe lupus, porphyria, COPD and heart disease among other ailments.

Damian was born on November 9, 1954, to Faustino and Guadalupe Villela in Littlefield, Texas, the youngest child in a family of five sisters and five brothers. Growing up, Damian enjoyed showing off on his bicycle by riding it down the stairs into the ocean.

At the age of fourteen, he got his first job with a construction company in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1969, Damian and his family moved to Iowa, and he attended Thompson High School. Damian worked for Kayot-Forresters in Forest City, Iowa, until it closed. From April 1981 until his health began to fail in 2001, he worked at Fleetguard in Lake Mills.

Damian met Rose Bishop in the summer of 1972; they were united in marriage on October 29, 1974. The love of his life, Rose meant the world to him. Sharing a mutually supportive and devotive marriage for thirty-six years, they had five children: Candida, Latecia, Tracy, Damian, Jr., and Jacqulyn.

Throughout his life, Damian enjoyed numerous outdoor activities with his family. He was an avid fisherman who spent countless hours along the banks of Clear Lake and Crystal Lake. Damian also enjoyed playing guitar and singing with his brothers and niece, Diana.

Damian was never a man of many words, but one of great actions. He was a proud and devoted father who inspired his children to be humble, hard working, and persevering adults. Damian was a devoted husband who treasured his wife dearly. Not only an excellent listener, he was also a great entertainer who would often listen to a repeated story as if he had never heard it before.

Damian is survived by his wife, Rose, of Thompson, Iowa, his children: Candida, who is married to Justin Naser of Lake Mills, Iowa, Latecia, who is married to Jonah White of San Diego, California, Tracy, who is engaged to, Josh VanWinkle of West Des Moines, Iowa, Damian, Jr., who is engaged to Amanda Reyerson of Scarville, Iowa, and Jacqulyn and her significant other, Joe Jamtgaard, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his three grandchildren: Liah and Anthony Naser of Lake Mills and Damian Raymond Villela of Scarville, his two step-grandchildren, Jaden and Jared White, of Hartford, Connecticut; his brother, David, of Buffalo Center; his sisters: Maria Gonzalaz-Chavez of McAllen, Texas, Juanita Benitez of Miller, Iowa, and Palmira Valdez of Corpus Christie, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Damian will be offered Saturday, November 13, 2010, at 10:30 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Buffalo Center, Iowa, with Father Dennis Miller officiating.

Visitation will be Friday from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Winter Funeral Home in Buffalo Center, Iowa, with a Rosery Service at 6:45 PM.
