July 24, 1937 - October 21, 2010

Janice A. Porter, age 73, of Forest City, died Thursday, October 21, 2010, at her home in rural Forest City.

Janice Porter was born in Denver, Colorado, on July 24, 1937, the daughter of Allen and Evelyn (Richard) Burkhard. She received her elementary education in Yuma, Colorado, and in 1955, graduated from Evergreen High School in Evergreen, Colorado, where she was a cheerleader and Ron played football and basketball. She continued her education at Parks College where she received her Secretarial Degree.

She was united in marriage to Ronald Porter in 1955, and the couple made their home in Evergreen. Janice was a stay-at-home mom raising a family until she began working for the City of Lakewood in Lakewood, Colorado, in 1972.

Janice and Ron moved to Forest City in 1993. She worked as a secretary for several years at the Cooper Law Office. Most recently, she was employed at the Abstract Office in Forest City. Failing health forced her retirement in August of 2010.

Janice was an avid reader. She enjoyed rosemaling, crafts and sewing. She treasured time spent with her family and grandchildren. Janice was a friendly and compassionate woman and will be remembered for her beautiful smile and outgoing personality. She passed away at her home in rural Forest City on October 21, 2010, at the age of 73 years.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald, of Forest City, her son, Shane Porter, of Thompson and her daughter, Alisa Porter, of Forest City. Also surviving are five grandsons: Travis, Andy & Jason and Joel & Luke.

Janice was preceded in death by her parents.

As per her wishes, Janice's body has been cremated, and no formal church services will be held.

A Graveside Inurnment Service will be conducted at 10:00 AM on Thursday, October 28, 2010, at the Linden Lutheran Cemetery in rural Forest City by the Reverend Shannon Pasqual, Pastor of the United Methodist Church in Buffalo Center, IA.
