(October 25, 1926 - June 10, 2010)

Stanley M. Hope, 83, of Lake Mills, IA, passed away June 10, 2010 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, IA, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Stanley Marvin Hope was born October 25, 1926, to Ingeborg and Oscar Hope near Woden, IA. He was baptized at Grant Lutheran Church, Woden, and confirmed at Forest Evangelical Lutheran Church, Forest City. He attended schools in Hancock and Winnebago counties and Fertile High School.

On February 24, 1947, Stanley was united in marriage with Betty Murley at Kanawha Lutheran Church. They farmed in the Scarville and Britt area. He also was employed by Winnebago County Road Maintenance for 23 years.

Stanley was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and enjoyed the fellowship and competition of numerous bowling leagues. A lifelong dream came true when Stanley and Betty made a trip to Norway to visit his parents’ homeland.

He is survived by his wife, Betty; son Maury (Linda) Hope of Ankeny, IA; daughter Kris (Dale) Olson of Ames, IA; grandchildren, Chad Olson, Cory Olson, Matthew Hope, Stephanie Summy; six great-grandchildren; sister, Gladys Olson, of Forest City, IA; brother, Obed, of Mason City, IA; brother, George, of Ogden, IA; sister-in-law, Clara Warren, in California as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Scarville, IA.

Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM on Monday, June 14, 2010, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills and one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will take place at Crystal Lake Township Cemetery in Crystal Lake, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames, the Mercy Foundation, in Mason City, or the family.
