Ray Murray, 76, a well known county and state political figure, as well as a worker in veterans' affairs, died Tuesday at the Buffalo Center hospital. He had been in ill health for some time. Funeral services are being held today (Thursday) at 1:30 at the Methodist Church in Buffalo Center with burial at Graceland Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Viola, a son, John Murray of Littleton, Colo., two daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Hazelman of Storm Lake and Mrs. Madeline Regis of Shrewsbury, Mass., eight grandchildren; two brothers, Earl of Buffalo Center and Harold of Lakota. A brother, Frank, preceded him in death.
Mr. Murray was born April 27 [1892], at Cissna Park, Ill. Following service overseas in World War I, he returned to Buffalo Center and farming. In 1932 he was elected State Secretary of Agriculture and served two terms. He then held a federal political appointment and continued to live in Des Moines until 1955 when he returned to Buffalo Center. He was advertising manager for the Buffalo Center Tribune at the time of his retirement.
Mr. Murray liked to write poetry and had several books of poems published. He was active in the American Legion and veteran's affairs.
