(January 7, 1917 - March 26, 2010)

FOREST CITY - Leona M. Lackore, age 93 of Forest City, died Friday, March 26, 2010, at the Good Samaritan Care Center in Forest City.

Leona M. (Jensen) Lackore, the daughter of Chris N. and Minnie (Nelson) Jensen, was born on the family farm in Forest Township on January 7, 1917. She graduated from Landru country school and Forest City High School and attended Waldorf College after which she taught school at Ellington #3.

On May 2, 1937, she was united in marriage to Milo Lackore. They were blessed with two children, Marilyn and Harley. Most of their married life they farmed northwest of Forest City. In 1977, they left the farm and divided their time between their home in Forest City and their home in Mesa, Arizona. Milo passed away in December of 1979, and Leona continued to spend the winter months at the MonDak mobile home park in Mesa until a few years ago when her health would no longer permit her to travel.

Leona was a member of the United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women as well as an active member of the Rebecca Circle. She was a member of the Neil’s Club and a past member of the Madison Birthday Club. For 19 years she worked at the Coast to Coast store in Forest City as a buyer and a salesperson.

Leona is survived by her daughter, Marilyn (Richard) Griffith of Fountain Hills, AZ, and son Harley (Davida Garrard) Lackore of Forest City; six grandchildren: Debbie David of Phoenix, AZ; Diane Griffith and David Griffith of Scottsdale, AZ; Kris Anne Lackore of Lake Mills; Buffy Sue (Scott) Clatt of Ames; and Adam (Darcy) Lackore of Leland and nine great-grandchildren: Jaci Miller; Kailee, Jessica and Dylan David; Peyton Mary, Spencer and Cooper Clatt; and Gracie and Stella Leona Lackore. Also surviving is a sister-in-law, Mrs. Arlee Jensen and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Milo, her parents and a brother, Calmer Jensen.

Funeral service will be held at 10:30 am Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the United Methodist Church in Forest City with Pastor Jerald Swanberg officiating. Burial will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City.

Visitation will be held an hour prior to service at the church.
