(August 18, 1924 - January 17, 2010)

Helen M. Twedt, age 85, of Lake Mills, died Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Helen M. Twedt was born on August 18, 1924, Athens Tennessee, the daughter of Jay and Leora (Leming) McAmis. Helen went to nurses training in Chattanooga, TN, and later joined the US Air Force and was stationed at MacDill Air Force Base in Tampa, FL. There she met Erling E. Twedt and they were married March 1st, 1952. After completing military service they moved to southern Minnesota and later to Northern Iowa where she continued her nursing career becoming a school nurse in Thompson, Iowa, and later enjoying a 27 year career at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, IA.

Upon entering the Lake Mills Care Center she was blessed to be cared for by a number of staff members she had previously trained and worked with.

Her memory is loved, and she will missed by her husband, Erling of Lake Mills, IA; three sons, Joel (Carol) Twedt of Lake Mills, IA, Edwin Twedt of Ames, IA, and James (Penny) Twedt of Urbandale, IA. Five grandchildren, Lesley (Ben) Setterlund, Matthew Twedt, Emily Twedt, Betsy Twedt, and Katie Twedt.

Helen is preceded in death by her parents; sister Marie, brother Tom, and her beloved daughter Karen.

Funeral service will be 1:30 PM, Wednesday, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, IA, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.

Visitation will be 4-7 PM Tuesday January 19, 2010, at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, IA 50450, and again at the church one hour prior to the service.

Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, IA, with military rites performed by Lake Mills Otto/Chose Post #235.
